Erskine Bowles

Erskine Bowles served under President Bill Clinton as head of the Small Business Administration, deputy chief of staff and chief of staff. A North Carolina native, he became president of the University of North Carolina system in 2006, serving four years. A graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Columbia University’s business school, Bowles began his career at Morgan Stanley in New York and later founded a Charlotte-based investment banking firm. Along with former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson, Bowles was appointed by President Barack Obama to co-chair the National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform. Bowles and Simpson proposed a deficit reduction plan -- “A Bipartisan Path Forward to Securing America’s Future” -- that combines health care and tax reforms with mandatory spending cuts, stronger discretionary caps and other measures.

Clark Gilbert

Clark Gilbert is president and CEO of Deseret News Publishing Co. and Deseret Digital Media. Previously, he was an associate academic vice president at Brigham Young University-Idaho, where he oversaw online learning and distance education initiatives. He also served as a professor of entrepreneurial management at Harvard Business School. He has an extensive background in digital media and has published numerous articles on media innovation and the growth of the Internet.


Robert Grimshaw

Rob Grimshaw is managing director of FT.com. In that role, he is the Financial Times board member responsible for the commercial development of the FT’s B2C digital business and product portfolio. Having successfully scaled the FT’s digital subscription business following his appointment in 2008, he saw his position expanded in 2012 to include responsibility for the FT’s print subscription business. This has now been integrated with the digital subscription business to create a single cross-channel B2C subscription business for the FT.

Mike Gulledge began his career with Lee in 1982 as a college intern at The Southern Illinoisan in Carbondale while earning a degree in journalism and advertising at Southern Illinois University. During his 30 years with Lee he has served as advertising manager at The Southern Illinoisan, advertising manager at the Herald & Review in Decatur; advertising manager at the Quad-City Times in Davenport; general manager at the Herald & Review in Decatur; publisher Herald & Review in Decatur and in 2000, he was appointed publisher of the Billings Gazette. He was named an officer and operating vice president in 2005.

In September 2012 Mike was named Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Lee Enterprises, Inc. He is active in the community and has served on the boards of private college institutions, economic development organizations, and health organizations. He is currently the chairman of the Montana Meth Project and past president of the Billings Chamber of Commerce.


Christian A. Hendricks

Christian A. Hendricks is vice president of interactive media for The McClatchy Co. He joined the company as advertising manager/marketing for The Fresno Bee and then became its marketing director. Hendricks went on to become manager of technology for McClatchy, holding that position until he was promoted to president and publisher of Nando Media, McClatchy’s Internet publishing company. He remained there until taking his current position and later assumed the additional role of president of Nando Media, which was renamed McClatchy Interactive in 2005.


Laura Hollingsworth

Laura Hollingsworth is president and publisher of The Des Moines (Iowa) Register and West group president for Gannett’s U.S. Community Publishing, overseeing 22 markets. Hollingsworth worked at newspapers in Wisconsin, Washington, Illinois and Michigan prior to joining The Des Moines Register as vice president of advertising. She later became general manager, directing advertising, circulation, production, marketing, information services, online and the Des Moines weeklies.

Charity Huff

Charity Huff co-founded Tru Measure in 2009, building the advertising analytics platform used by the majority of the U.S. publisher market. Drawing on a wealth of search engine marketing, newspaper and yellow pages experience, she also co-founded Maroon Ventures, a media consulting practice that brings traditional media products to the digital age. Specializing in targeting local markets, Charity has assisted both media companies and digital startups in designing and implementing go-to-market strategies. Her ability to identify and implement new opportunities for growth and revenue for clients can be attributed to her keen understanding of the local, small and medium-size business market. Charity holds an MBA with an emphasis in operation management from Regis University, and a bachelor of arts in communications and public relations from Washington State University.


Srinandan Kasi

Srinandan Kasi is interim CEO and president of NewsRight. Most recently, he was on the management committee of The Associated Press as vice president, general counsel and secretary, with global responsibility for AP’s legal affairs. Prior to joining the AP, Kasi was a corporate transactions lawyer in New York City with a focus on corporate ventures and alliances in the information technology sector. Kasi began his career as a scientist at IBM, with product development responsibilities in the microelectronics area.


Christoph Keese

Christoph Keese is president of public affairs for Axel Springer. He previously was chief editor of Welt online and Welt am Sonntag. Before joining FTD, he worked as managing editor and head of the business division at Berliner Zeitung.


Michael J. Klingensmith

Michael J. Klingensmith is publisher and CEO of Star Tribune Media Co. LLC. His career includes a lengthy stint with Time Inc., where he began as a corporate financial analyst. He held various management positions with the company, including general manager of Time Magazine, CFO of Time Inc., founding publisher of Entertainment Weekly, president of Sports Illustrated and executive vice president at Time Inc. Prior to joining the Star Tribune, Klingensmith was a managing director of AdMedia Partners. In November 2011, he was named Publisher of the Year by Editor & Publisher.


Terry Kroeger

Terry Kroeger is CEO of BH Media Group and publisher of the Omaha World-Herald, Nebraska’s largest newspaper. Kroeger joined the Omaha World-Herald Co. in 1985 and was named CEO in 2008.

Aaron Kushner is CEO of Freedom Communications, 2100 Trust LLC and publisher of the Orange County Register. Kushner founded the holding company 2100 Trust LLC specifically for the purpose of buying and growing major newspapers. The 2100 Trust name was derived from Kushner’s belief in newspapers’ long-term future and their fundamental strength as community institutions. 2100 Trust completed its acquisition of Freedom in July 2012.

Mary Meder

Alan Rusbridger

Alan Rusbridger is editor-in-chief of Guardian News & Media, a member of the GNM and GMG Boards and a member of the Scott Trust, which owns the Guardian and the Observer. He helped launch Guardian Unlimited (now guardian.co.uk) and was responsible for the paper's complete redesign and transformation into the Berliner format. During Rusbridger’s editorship, the paper has fought a number of high-profile battles over libel and press freedom, including cases involving Neil Hamilton, Jonathan Aitken, the Police Federation, Trafigura, freedom of information and Wikileaks.


Ben T. Smith IV

Ben T. Smith IV is CEO of Wanderful Media. He previously served as co-founder, CEO and chairman of the board of MerchantCircle. He was chairman and CEO at Spoke.com and remains on the company’s board of directors. Roy Spence is co-founder and chairman of GSD&M. Dave Thomsen

Katharine Weymouth

Katharine Weymouth is CEO of Washington Post Media and publisher of The Washington Post. She was named to both positions in February 2008 after having served as The Post’s vice president of advertising since January 2005. Weymouth joined The Post in 1996 as assistant counsel. After two years, she moved to Washingtonpost.Newsweek Interactive as associate counsel. In 2000, Weymouth returned to the newspaper, where she served as the advertising department’s liaison between The Post and WPNI. She became director of the advertising department’s jobs unit in 2002 and was named director of advertising sales in April 2004.


Jack Williams
